The survey shows that 58% of participants believe that emoticons improve communication. This trend is particularly strong among younger people, with 70% of Generation Z saying emoticons should be included to complete a message, while 46% of Gen Z alone don’t capture it as often.

The use of emoticons crosses linguistic and cultural boundaries, providing a simple and effective way to share emotions and intentions. For example, a smiling face can instantly soften a message, making the sender appear more likable and approachable.

The study also shows that 58% of emoji users prefer happy emojis, such as smileys or laughing faces, while 15% choose softer emojis such as hearts or kisses.

A minority (4%) prefer bolder emoticons, such as a frowning face or a dancing woman. Whatever the preference, it’s clear that emojis are here to stay, with only 5% of respondents saying they don’t use them in everyday conversations.
