Muslim Attitude Towards Religion Scale
The Muslim Attitude Towards Religion Scale (MARS) is a research tool utilized to measure Muslim adherents’ attitudes and perceptions about religion and religious practices. The scale employs a 5-point Likert scale, ranging from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree,” to rate participants’ responses to each question. The MARS assesses multiple dimensions of religious faith and practice, based on both social and personal aspects of religion.
There are two sets of items in the MARS that relate to the participant’s religious behaviour and religious practices. The first set evaluates individual spiritual experiences such as religious beliefs and commitment, immersion in religious activities, and personal religious practices like prayer and fasting, and the second set measures broader religious practices such as communal religious practices, mosque attendance, and the Hijab.
The MARS questionnaire has an acceptable level of internal consistency, as demonstrated by the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient that ranged from 0.75 to 0.87 on different items. The MARS also has good construct validity, as demonstrated by the correlations between the scale scores and other relevant constructs.
The Muslim Attitude towards Religion Scale has been critically tested for its reliability and validity in various studies. The scale’s face, content, criterion, and construct validity have been evaluated in various cultural contexts, and its results suggest that the scale has excellent reliability and validity. Therefore, the MARS questionnaire is considered a valid and reliable scale for measuring the various dimensions of Muslim attitudes towards religious beliefs and practices.
