These 3 habits that emotionally intelligent people have

How do you identify a person’s level of emotional intelligence? A person capable of understanding their emotions, of taking a step back, of not being in a direct reaction and impulsiveness, of understanding the emotions of others, of knowing how to apprehend them, of managing themโฆ There are many ways to observe that a person has a high level of emotional intelligence.
In other words, an emotionally intelligent person has the ability to recognize, accept and manage their emotions and those of others. Conversely, a person whose emotional intelligence has been poorly developed, will show little sensitivity, lack empathy, adaptability, show egocentrism and let themselves be guided by their emotions. But beyond emotional capacities, this type of intelligence can also influence our habits.
The 3 habits of emotionally intelligent people with their phones
Phubbing is the practice of using your phone while snubbing the people you are with. And thatโs not necessarily a sign of emotional intelligence. โIn my research into emotionally intelligent digital etiquette, I found that phubbing erodes trust and weakens connections, leaving others feeling alone, insecure, resentful and dissatisfied with their relationship with you, writes researcher Jenny Woo and Harvard-trained etiquette specialist, for CNBC. Phubbing is associated with less social awareness. ยป
Faced with this observation, the expert listed three habits with the telephone which, unlike phubbing, are signs of high emotional intelligence:
- Usage planning โEmotionally intelligent people set clear intentions for when and how they will use their phones, especially in social situations,โ says Jenny Woo.
- Distance from the object : โTo enjoy greater mental freedom and productivity, emotionally intelligent people create physical barriers between themselves and their devices by leaving their phone in their pocket or in another room. ยป
- Breaks : โEmotionally intelligent people understand the importance of managing dopamine-induced impulses,โ assures the etiquette expert. By intentionally interrupting their phone use โ whether through scheduled breaks or downtime apps โ they regain control of their attention and focus. ยป
Other habits revealing high emotional intelligence
Of course, the limits set with your phone are not enough to demonstrate your level of emotional intelligence. For example, the limits set with those around you can also be a sign. โPeople with high emotional intelligence continue to monitor their boundaries so they know when they have enough emotional bandwidth to continue handling a situation and when they may feel overwhelmed and need to take a break,โ says Marty. A. Cooper, psychologist, for Parade.
Emotional intelligence can also manifest itself through other habits, such as listening attentively to constructive criticism or not being afraid of failure. Finally, Kristin Daley, psychologist, assures Parade that being able to sit still or waking up at the same time every day can also be a sign.
