Which Christmas tree to choose according to our desires? An expert’s answer
Each year, as the end of the year approaches, the holiday season prepares. With it, the questions multiply: what decoration to choose? What gifts to choose for family members? What meal to choose? And first of all, if you have not chosen a synthetic version, the same question comes up again and again year after year: which tree to choose?
The Nordmann and the Spruce are among the best known and essential species, but other options can also be interesting. Depending on your desires and needs. Eric Lecouffe nursery product manager at Jardiland shares his advice*.
1. The Nordmann: an aesthetic and quality Christmas tree
If we want to bet on a safe value when buying our Christmas tree, the Nordmann remains the most popular tree. Sold in France since the beginning of the 1980s, it is distinguished by its high quality, but not only that… “It has the advantage of keeping its needles for a long time. It holds up well in homes, whatever the heating conditions. The Nordmann is also very aesthetic with its conical shape and its shiny green” explains Eric Lecouffe. On the other hand, if we are looking for a tree with a nice scent, the Nordmann may not be the one we need. Its scent is very discreet.
2. The Spruce: the historic Christmas tree
“Spruce represents the traditional image we have of the Christmas tree with its conical shape, its dense foliage, its small needles and its strong smell,” explains the expert. On the downside, the Spruce loses its needles quickly, in less than 15 days. Eric Lecouffe therefore advises us to install it in our house around December 5/10. The heat damages it quickly. “If we leave it outside, there’s no problem. The tree doesn’t move.” Spruce is very popular with families. “They often choose this one because children love this type of tree. And what’s more, it costs less because it grows quickly.”
3. The Nobilis: a graphic and fragrant Christmas tree
The Nobilis Christmas tree is characterized by its shorter and raised needles compared to the Nordmann. Another particularity: it is less flat, more graphic thanks to its structure in stages. If we want to be enveloped in a sweet Christmas scent, the Nobilis is the ideal tree. “It gives off a fairly strong lemony smell. It’s a tree that works well. It is a little more expensive, because it is less planted, but its price remains affordable” underlines the expert. In the range of this fir we find the Fraser fir, although with some differences. “It’s a little greener. Its needles are slightly shorter. On the other hand, like Nobilis and Nordmann, it is heat resistant. Its needles dry out, but do not fall off. It is interesting for slightly heated apartments.”
4. The Label Rouge: the ultimate Christmas tree
“The Label Rouge tree is the Rolls of trees! » asks Eric Lecouffe. If we want a magnificent tree, this species is ideal. It comes from the Nordmann fir. “The Nordmann is already beautiful and qualitative. The Label Rouge is even more so. It is a high-end tree, with a real guarantee of freshness. It is standardized and controlled in all cultures.
It’s more expensive, but it’s worth it.” And for good reason, we are sure to keep it until January 1st. The Label Rouge is also available in Spruce. “It is interesting because it is even more conical than the Nordmann.”
