People have been cut off from their companions, family, and exercises that give them happiness. People spend most of their time alone nowadays as compared to their past years.

For some people, the COVID-19 is a greater opportunity for enjoying peace and loneliness. Lockdown gives them a chance to spend their time with themselves. For some people, social isolation causes depression and they felt lonely. Fear during this pandemic may be due to your personality type.

All the type of personality either introvert, extrovert or ambiverts can feel loneliness. Fortunately, there are many ways to discover happiness in being isolate.

Personality types and relationship with enjoying loneliness

Extrovert Personality Type

Extroverts are confident, socialized, and optimistic. They are social butterflies. Being a social butterfly does mean you always enjoy spending time with others. Extroverts also enjoy solitude.

During COVID-19 extroverts are feeling depressed because they mostly spend, their time in social activities through which they drew energy for themselves. COVID-19 is a challenging situation to enjoy being alone.

Introvert Personality Type

Introverts people like to spend time alone, they can also experience feelings of loneliness. COVID-19 lockdown is a greater opportunity for these types of people because they have a greater chance to enjoy their solitude.

But the alarming situation also disturbed the introverts due to economical conditions.

Ambiverts Personality Type 

Ambiverts have both personality types either introversion or extroversion. They sometimes enjoy being alone and sometimes they are depressed to spend time alone.

Their moods and behaviors are changing according to the situation. In COVID-19 they enjoy spending time alone and as well as they are disturbed by not being socialized.

Is being alone the same as being lonely?

Both the term being alone and being lonely are not the same.

‘Loneliness is defined as the negative reaction toward the social relationship you actually have and the social relationship you desire.’’

Loneliness is a subjective feeling whereas being alone is a physical feeling.  Commonly it is thought that loneliness does not pose any risk to health. According to the studies, Loneliness increases the chances of serious health issues such as mental illnesses, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and death.

Anyone can have the feeling of loneliness but the following groups of people feel more:

  • Students
  • Ladies
  • Older peoples
  • Single person

Isolation may cause feelings of loneliness, but there is a greater chance that a person is happy to be alone. Finding joy in loneliness needs effective strategies. It depends upon personality types. What is effective for introverts is not necessary to be effective for extroverts and vice versa.

When to ask for help?

All the efforts of self-care and gratitude sometimes are failing to overcome the feelings of loneliness.  Loneliness can strongly affect people’s daily life, well-being, and mental health.
