The preliminary version was given to a group of experts in the field of Psychology and Urdu literature for feedback and modifications. Based on their feedback, a revised Urdu version of the IFR was created. Afterward, this version was administered to a randomly selected group of participants to test its reliability and validity.

The reliability of the Urdu version of IFR was tested using Cronbach’s alpha. Cronbach’s alpha values range from 0 to 1 and a value of 0.7 or above is considered acceptable for social science research. The reliability coefficient for the Urdu version of IFR was found to be 0.79, which indicates that the scale has good internal consistency.

To establish the validity of the Urdu version of IFR, a factor analysis was performed. Factor analysis is a statistical technique used to find the underlying factors that explain the correlations among a set of variables. The factor analysis of the Urdu version of IFR revealed five factors: support/conflict, family involvement, child-rearing practices, control, and autonomy. The results of the factor analysis indicated that the construct validity of the Urdu version of IFR is acceptable.

In summary, the Index of Family Relations (IFR) is a questionnaire that measures individuals’ perceived affection, conflict, and control within the family. The Urdu Version of the IFR has been developed and tested for reliability and validity in the Pakistani context. The scale has good internal consistency and acceptable construct validity. It is an effective tool to assess family relations and can be used in research and clinical settings in Pakistan.
