Organisational Committment Questionnaire

Organisational Committment Questionnaire

The Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) is a widely used self-report instrument to assess the degree to which employees feel committed to their organization. The questionnaire measures three components of organizational commitment: affective commitment, normative commitment, and continuance commitment.

Reliability:

The reliability of the OCQ is evaluated using internal consistency. The internal consistency of the OCQ was measured using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient which ranges from 0.72 to 0.91 for different subscales. The results indicate good-to-excellent internal consistency of the OCQ.

Validity:

The validity of the OCQ was evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The CFA results confirmed that the OCQ items loaded on the three expected factors of organizational commitment. The fit indices obtained from the CFA (CFI=0.95, RMSEA=0.07) indicated a good fit for the three-factor model. Additionally, the OCQ has good concurrent validity with other measures of job satisfaction and turnover intention.

Scales Used:

The OCQ measures three dimensions of organizational commitment:

  • Affective Commitment: it reflects the employee’s emotional attachment to the organization, and it is defined as the employee’s willingness to continue working for the organization because he or she enjoys working there.
  • Normative Commitment: it reflects the employee’s obligations to remain with the organization. It is defined as the employee’s feeling of loyalty or moral obligation to remain with the organization.
  • Continuance Commitment: it reflects the employee’s perceived costs of leaving the organization. It is defined as the employee’s need to remain with the organization because of the costs of leaving.

Conclusion:

The Organizational Commitment Questionnaire is considered a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the degree of organizational commitment among employees. The OCQ is a widely used instrument in both academic research and management, and it has been adapted to different cultures and languages. The scales used in the OCQ measure three dimensions of organizational commitment, which can help managers better understand the attitudes and behaviors of their employees and develop strategies for employee retention and engagement.
