Overview

There is a more severe version of a premenstrual syndrome known as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) (PMS). Women of childbearing age may be affected. It’s a serious, long-lasting medical problem requiring immediate attention and care.

Similar to premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a more significant condition. The odds are that you’ve had some form of PMS since the onset of your cycle.

Doctors estimate that as many as seventy-five percent of women experience some form of PMS symptoms, including food cravings, cramps, sore breasts, irritability, or weariness on a regular basis. However, PMDD is an exception.

PMDD is similar to premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in that it generates emotional and physical symptoms, but women who have it report that it drains them.
