Questionnaire on Sacrifice Urdu
The “Questionnaire on Sacrifice Urdu Version” was developed and used in a study conducted in Pakistan to investigate the role of sacrifice in marital relationships. Its development involved the translation and adaptation of Whitton’s Sacrifice Behaviour Inventory (SBI, 2000) into Urdu.
The adaptation was conducted in two phases. Phase I involved the forward translation of the inventory into Urdu by a bilingual expert and backward translation into English by another bilingual expert for comparison. Corrections were made after examining the errors and a provisional Urdu version was created. Phase II involved the back translation of the provisional Urdu version into English by a bilingual expert, comparison of the back translated version with the original English version, and corrections made to the provisional Urdu version accordingly. The final version of the Urdu questionnaire was then pilot tested before being used in the study.
In terms of reliability and validity, the construct validity of the scale was examined in relation to other standardized scales and was found to be valid. Additionally, multiple regression analysis indicated that Sacrifice, Sacrifice as Harmful to self, and Commitment & Agreement were important factors in predicting relationship quality while depression was significant only for females. No differences by age, education, and socio-economic status were found. With regards to the internal consistency of the scale, no information was provided in the source text. It is recommended that future studies interested in using the questionnaire assess its psychometric properties further.
Overall, the “Questionnaire on Sacrifice Urdu Version” is an adapted scale used to measure the perceived sacrifice behavior of individuals in Pakistan in the context of marital relationships. While its construct validity has been examined and found to be valid, it is important to consider its psychometric properties and limitations before using it in future research.
