Task Motivation Style Questionnire Urdu
The Task Motivation Style (TMS) questionnaire is a widely-used psychometric tool designed to measure individuals’ motivation towards various tasks, including academic activities. One of its versions is Urdu Version. The TMS questionnaire contains 48 items, 16 items each on task-oriented motivation (TOM), self-oriented motivation (SOM), and ego-oriented motivation (EOM). TOM refers to enjoyment, engagement, and curiosity in the task itself, whereas SOM relates to self-enhancement and a desire to surpass one’s previous performance, and EOM focuses on competition, social comparison, and status enhancement.
To evaluate the reliability of the TMS Urdu Version, researchers have used different statistical methods, such as the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, test-retest reliability, and inter-rater reliability. The results have consistently demonstrated that TMS is a reliable measure of task motivation in different contexts, cultures, and samples.
The internal reliability estimate of the TMS questionnaire using Cronbach’s Alpha has been found to be .86, indicating good consistency and precision within the items. Test-retest reliability estimates have also been reported to be high, ranging from .74 to .89, indicating the stability of the TMS questionnaire over time. Inter-rater reliability measures demonstrate that different raters obtain reliable and consistent scores from the same respondents, which means that the TMS questionnaire is also consistent, regardless of who administers or scores the questionnaire.
Moreover, the TMS questionnaire has been found to have good construct validity. Studies have shown that the TMS questionnaire correlates positively with motivation towards learning, the Big Five personality traits, extrinsic motivation, and achievement-related variables. It also correlates negatively with academic procrastination and amotivation, signifying its ability to differentiate between individuals with varying motivational characteristics.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the TMS Urdu Version is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring individuals’ task-oriented, self-oriented, and ego-oriented motivation. This measure’s robustness makes it possible to analyze an individual’s motivation style accurately and can help researchers explore effective strategies to promote appropriate motivation and subsequent improvement of academic and occupational performance.
