Teacher Efficacy Scale Urdu
The Teacher Efficacy Scale (TES) is a self-report instrument used to measure teachers’ perceptions of their personal and teaching efficacy. This instrument was designed to assess the level of teachers’ belief in their ability to perform their duties effectively, specifically in terms of managing classes, coping with student behavior, and communicating with students. The TES consists of 16-items divided into two subscales: Personal Efficacy (PE) and Teaching Efficacy (TE).
The Personal Efficacy subscale includes seven items measuring teachers’ self-perceptions of their own capabilities, while the Teaching Efficacy subscale includes nine items measuring teachers’ beliefs in their teaching capabilities. The alpha reliability coefficient for the total scale was 0.72 while the alpha coefficients for Personal Efficacy (PE) and Teaching Efficacy (TE) were 0.61 and 0.81, respectively. The results suggest that the TES is a relatively reliable measure, with consistent internal reliability across the two subscales.
The development and validation of the TES were based on a committee approach and two phases of research. In the first phase, the TES was developed, and the psychometric properties were assessed to ensure its reliability and validity. In the second phase, the TES was pre-tested to identify any flaws that may interfere with the findings and then administered in a main study consisting of 330 women secondary school teachers from government and private schools in Pakistan.
Overall, the Teacher Efficacy Scale is a reliable and valid measure that helps evaluate teachers’ beliefs in their efficacy. The scale is helpful in identifying the levels of stress and job performance of teachers and for developing interventions that support teachers in managing classroom behavior and developing positive student-teacher relationships.
