Introduction
In 1980, anxiety disorders were introduced by American Psychiatric Association. Before the introduction of anxiety disorder, people who have anxiety disorders are generally diagnosed with stress or nerves.
Health professionals were not aware of these disorders and people were not treated effectively. Only a few people get effective treatment.
According to international research in 1980, anxiety disorders are linked with severe disabilities. With early diagnosis and treatment, several disabilities can be prevented.
The problems related to anxiety disorders are
- Agoraphobia
- Drug &/ or alcohol abuse
- Major Depression
Nowadays the media spreads more and more awareness related to anxiety, panic attacks, and anxiety disorders. As people are more and more aware of anxiety disorders they are more interested in getting appropriate treatment for their disorders.
Anxiety disorders are now less stigmatized by people. People from all areas of life now report their problems to health professionals and get treatment.
In the past, it was a common perception that Anxiety disorders and panic attacks were women’s disorders but it is not true. Anxiety disorder is common in Men and Women. Both Men and Women are affected by anxiety disorders. Men are more reluctant to get treatment.
Anxiety disorders are recently introduced but it was present throughout the history of human beings. In history, many renowned and great people have panic attacks and anxiety disorders in their lives. They did not receive any proper and effective treatment. Sometimes they received funny and dangerous treatments but none of them were not effective for them.
Following were the treatments that were used in past such as
- Treatment through herbs and balms.
- Bathing in the extremely cold river and streams of water.
- Hydropathy: applying extreme temperature on the body
- Health spas
- Bloodletting by using the leeches
Anxiety disorders. With the advancement of the pharmaceutical industries, people with anxiety disorders were heavily prescribed the drugs. Although they were not called anxiety disorders at that time.
