Translation process:
The original English version of the questionnaire underwent a rigorous translation process to ensure an accurate and equivalent Urdu version. The translation process involved several stages, including translation and back-translation by two independent bilingual professionals, expert review, and pilot testing. The final Urdu version of the OCQ was developed based on this comprehensive translation process.
Reliability:
The reliability of the Urdu version of the OCQ was evaluated using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. The internal consistency coefficients ranged from 0.75 to 0.92 for different components of organizational commitment, indicating good-to-excellent reliability.
Validity:
The validity of the Urdu version of the OCQ was evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The CFA results confirmed that the Urdu version of the OCQ items loaded on the expected three factors: affective commitment, normative commitment, and continuance commitment. The fit indices obtained from the CFA (CFI=0.96, RMSEA=0.08) indicated a good fit for the three-factor model of organizational commitment. Additionally, the Urdu version of the OCQ has good concurrent validity with other measures of job satisfaction and turnover intention.
Scales Used:
The Urdu version of the OCQ measures three dimensions of organizational commitment, including:
- Affective commitment: reflects the employee’s emotional attachment to the organization
- Normative commitment: reflects the employee’s obligations to remain with the organization
- Continuance commitment: reflects the employee’s perceived costs of leaving the organization
Conclusion:
The Urdu version of the Organizational Commitment Questionnaire is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the degree of organizational commitment among employees in Pakistan. The questionnaire underwent a rigorous translation process to ensure an accurate and equivalent Urdu version. The results indicate good-to-excellent reliability and good concurrent validity with other measures of job satisfaction and turnover intention. The Urdu version of the OCQ can be useful for managers and HR professionals in assessing the organizational commitment of employees and developing strategies for retention and engagement.
